Rob Gronkowski: Patriots Restructuring Contract ‘A Great Feeling’

Rob Gronkowski is $4 million richer, and he doesn’t have any complaints.

The New England Patriots restructured their star tight end’s contract Tuesday, paying him $4 million of his $10 million option bonus and all but assuring that they’ll pick up Gronkowski’s option at the end of the NFL year. And Gronk is understandably thrilled.

“It’€™s a great feeling,” Gronkowski said, per WEEI. “I just want to thank (owner Robert) Kraft, coach (Bill) Belichick and the New England Patriots organization. They’€™re first-class to always deal with. It is what it is now and it’€™s time to put that behind you and just play football now.”

The Patriots drafted Gronkowski in 2010, and since then, the 6-foot-6 tight end has been a key member of New England’s offense. Gronkowski helped get the Patriots to Super Bowl XLIX by amassing 1,124 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, so it’s no surprise that they’d want to keep him through 2019.

And Gronk’s seems A-OK with that.

“It’€™s just an honor to be part of (the Patriots),” Gronkowski said. “Ever since I was drafted, it’€™s an unbelievable feeling just coming here and coming out to practice every single day and putting that jersey on.”
