Ron Wolf: My Comment To Roger Goodell On Tom Brady Ruling Was Sincere

Ron Wolf elicited quite a laugh from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday night. But apparently he wasn’t messing around.

The former Green Bay Packers general manager, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, created a stir when microphones captured him telling Goodell “way to go on that Brady thing,” a reference to Goodell’s decision to uphold the four-game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Given Goodell’s reaction, many wondered if Wolf’s comment was sarcastic, but he cleared the air on that subject Friday.

“I wasn’t trying to be a wise guy,” Wolf told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. “I realize he has a real tough job. It was just a passing moment, and obviously, it was picked up on a microphone. I basically meant, ‘Congrats on making a decision.’ That’s why the owners are paying him all that money.”

Goodell is indeed getting paid a lot of money, but many people associated with the league feel like’s not earning it. Yet it appears the commissioner still has an ally in Wolf.

“… It’s still a tough job, and I congratulated him on making that decision, although I don’t think it was anything profound,” Wolf added. “It happened so quickly. It’s not me saying I’m for or against his decision. That’s not for me to say.”
