American Pharoah’s Triple Crown magic ran out Saturday when he finished second to Keen Ice at the 146th Travers Stakes in Saratoga, N.Y.

Keen Ice entered with 16-1 odds and used a strong push down the stretch to pull off the upset.

The result ended American Pharoah’s eight-race win streak, which began in his second career race. He was the fourth Triple Crown winner to run in the Travers Stakes. The last Triple Crown winner to claim this race was Whirlaway in 1941.

American Pharoah became the 12th Triple Crown winner and the first since 1978 when he dominated the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes in May and June.
