The New England Patriots were busy making practice squad moves as they left on their Week 2 road trip to play the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots signed guard Chris Barker and defensive tackle Khyri Thornton to their practice squad Saturday. They cut defensive tackle Jimmy Staten and cornerback Dax Swanson to make room for Barker and Thornton.

Thornton was cut by the Patriots on Thursday and cleared waivers Friday. The defensive tackle was claimed by the Patriots on Sept. 6 after he was waived by the Green Bay Packers.

Barker was with the Patriots throughout training camp before being cut earlier this month. He began the 2015 season on the practice squad but was cut as he recovered from a high ankle sprain.

Staten was just signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Friday. He previously signed to the practice squad on Sept. 7 and was cut Sept. 16.

Swanson signed to the Patriots’ practice squad on Sept. 7. He also spent most of last season on the scout team.
