The NFL took a beating in its very public battle with Tom Brady, but the league apparently still has faith.

Craig Carton, co-host of the “Boomer and Carton” show on WFAN Radio in New York, said Friday that a “very influential person in the NFL” believes the New England Patriots quarterback still will serve a four-game suspension. That’s despite the fact U.S. District Judge Richard Berman vacated the four-game suspension the NFL handed Brady for his alleged role in Deflategate.

The NFL appealed Berman’s decision, and the unnamed source reportedly told Carton “there’s no doubt at all in his mind” that Brady will serve that four-game ban this season — after the appeal is heard.

The league certainly is facing an uphill battle. The appeals process often is drawn out, meaning it would have to be expedited for any suspension to take place this season.
