Torii Hunter Compliments Mookie Betts On Catch, Pokes Fun At ALCS Gaffe

Mookie Betts has been one of the biggest breakout stars of 2015, and he’s starting to get noticed for it.

The Boston Red Sox right fielder made one of the most spectacular catches of the season Friday when he robbed Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis of a home run to end Boston’s 7-0 win.

The incredible snag in the right field bullpen area of Fenway Park caught the eye of nine-time Gold Glove outfielder Torii Hunter, whose own attempt at robbing a David Ortiz home run went historically bad during the 2013 American League Championship Series.

Betts seemingly was very grateful and quickly responded to the legend.

Hunter, like Betts earlier this season, suffered a concussion after flipping over the bullpen wall. He made sure to send well wishes — if not a gentle reminder — to Betts.

If Betts can become even half the outfielder Hunter has been (and he certainly has made great strides this season), he’ll be a valuable asset in Boston’s outfield for years to come.
