Edinson Volquez was unhittable Friday night.

The Royals right-hander pitched a flawless game for Kansas City in its 5-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series at Kauffman Stadium.

Volquez only allowed two hits while striking out five over six shutout innings. And the Royals’ bullpen took care of things from there.

The Royals also had a big game offensively. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third thanks to a pair of RBI hits by Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain. Then Salvador Perez made it 3-0 with a home run the following inning.
