Murphy’s Law states that if something bad can happen, it will.

Daniel Murphy plays for the New York Mets, but it was the Los Angeles Dodgers he haunted Thursday night in Game 5 of the National League Division Series.

With the Mets trailing by one run against Zach Greinke, the odds-on favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award, Murphy created a run when he took an extra base on a walk. He later scored to tie the game.

A few innings later, Murphy again took things into his own hands, this time roping a line drive into the right field sears to put the Mets ahead for good.

New York won the game 3-2 and the series three games to two. They’ll advance to the National League Championship Series and face the Chicago Cubs, with a trip to the World Series on the line.
