One’s a 15-time World Heavyweight champion. The other is a four-time Super Bowl champion. Both are the face of their respective sports, so it’s no surprise that John Cena and Tom Brady might have more in common than you might think.

Cena appeared as a special guest on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” in Week 2 of a new segment promoting the WWE and was asked by former WWE Superstar Jonathan Coachman what similarities he sees between himself and Brady.

An admittedly “huge” New England Patriots fan, Cena was quick to answer with four very specific qualities that he and Brady share.

“Similarities between me and Tom Brady? That’s easy,” Cena said with a chuckle. “Both of our bosses are extremely well-dressed; Tom Brady was in the movie ‘Ted 2,’ I saw ‘Ted 2’; Both of us enjoy a fine soup; and our favorite scented candle is pomegranate noir.”

Clearly a humble Cena wasn’t ready to compare himself to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but in a classic Cena manner had fun with the answer. Though, we’re not quite sure if that was an funny jab at Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s sweatshirt wardrobe or an actual compliment to owner Robert Kraft’s typical dapper attire.

Cena also opened up about his involvement with WWE’s breast cancer awareness campaign, “Rise Above Cancer.”

“Well, you know, a personal fact about me: My younger brother was diagnosed with a Stage 3 brain tumor, and it kind of hit myself and my family by surprise,” Cena explained. “And as we all see during the month of October, there’s a ton of sports going pink, as you can see by my shirt and my tie and my pin.

“So I had suggested to WWE: ‘Why don’t we have the same sort of initiative?’ I mean we entertain millions and millions across the world. We don’t have any certain geography. We can send this message globally. And I think it’s us doing our part to help rid the world of breast cancer. So I’m very happy that WWE got on board. I’m very happy that this October we are using our voice loud and proud to help fight breast cancer and end it forever.”

Cena ended the interview by talking about NXT, WWE’s “minor league” promotion that has meteorically risen in popularity thanks to a cult-like following of passionate fans.

“I think it is the linchpin of the future of the WWE,” Cena said. “You can now see their programs as well. You can see the foundations of the future of the WWE. You can see the WWE’s next megastars. This is where everything starts. It would be like watching the equivalent of watching college football opposed to the NFL or minor league baseball as opposed to the major leagues.

“This is where we will get the next superstar that is going to be in the middle of that ring, surrounded by the WWE Universe. I think it’s a fantastic program and the show is second-to-none. These performers, these superstars — these NXT Superstars: they all deserve a spot here. And I actually can’t wait to hopefully get in the ring with my next counterpart.”

Sounds like a very Brady-esque answer to us.
