John Farrell couldn’t get excited until he knew for sure his cancer was in remission.
The Boston Red Sox manager got that good bit of news — that his stage 1 lymphoma was in remission — Thursday after a scan. Farrell spoke with reporters Friday on a conference call, expressing his excitement to get back to work.
“I feel like the news of (Thursday), and getting a clean bill of health has been a huge relief,” Farrell said Friday.
The Red Sox skipper said he finished treatment, which went as long as 10 hours per day, three weeks ago. He revealed he has “no restrictions” now, as long as his body can handle it, which means he’s able to put his focus on preparing for the 2016 season.
Not only that, Farrell is confidence he’ll soon be completely cured.
“Difference between remission and cured is a matter of time,” Farrell said. “With each passing scan, the likelihood and probability of a cure continues to grow. There’s a high level of confidence that that will be achieved.”
In fact, Farrell said he’ll shortly be heading to Arizona to meet with members of his staff and the baseball operations department to continue preparations for next season.
