Nathaniel Clyne is on the board.

Clyne scored the first goal of his Liverpool career on Wednesday in the Reds’ Capital One Cup (Football League Cup) win over Bournemouth.

Clyne struck in the 18th minute after a defender cleared Joao Carlos Teixeira’s back-heel off the goal line. Roberto Firmino set up Teixeira’s effort with a through-ball.

Clyne opened his Liverpool account early in his 14th game for the club. Coincidentally, he scored while playing left fullback. Connor Randall started at right back — the position Clyne has made his own at Anfield.

Liverpool paid Southampton £12.5 million ($20 million) for Clyne last summer with hopes he’d help prevent goals, as he has done so well in recent years. Clyne’s forward raid against Bournemouth proved his other attributes can be a bonus to Liverpool’s prospects.
