Thought it was impossible for Julian Edelman to become any more popular in Boston? Think again.
With the New England Patriots having already defeated the Miami Dolphins in a Thursday night matchup, Edelman and several of his teammates decided to spend Friday night at TD Garden, where the Boston Celtics were hosting the Toronto Raptors.
The Patriots crew was shown on the Garden’s Jumbotron during the fourth quarter, and Edelman used the occasion to modestly wave to the crowd.
Just kidding.
To the delight of the Celtics fans in attendance, the wide receiver downed the beer he was holding, crushed the can and triumphantly dropped it, drawing what several reporters called the loudest ovation of the night.
The C’s didn’t give their home crowd quite as much to cheer about, losing 113-103 to fall to 1-1 on the young season.
