The New England Patriots could be in the market for a cornerback after cutting veteran Bradley Fletcher on Saturday.
The Patriots worked out two defensive backs, cornerback Bill Bentley and safety Matt Daniels, on Tuesday, according to a source.
Bentley was selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Louisiana-Lafayette. He tore his ACL last September and missed the entire 2014 season. He was cut by the Lions in June after failing his physical.
Bentley has played in 18 career games with eight starts. He has 44 career tackles and five passes defended. The 5-foot-10, 188-pound cornerback ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2012 with a 6.99-second 3-cone drill.
The Patriots have just four cornerbacks on their roster after cutting Fletcher — Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Tarell Brown and Justin Coleman. They added special-teamer Brandon King to the 53-man roster when cutting Fletcher.
Daniels was signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Duke in 2012. The 6-feet, 212-pound safety was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars with an injury settlement in September. Daniels has just six career games under his belt.
