The Red Sox’s recent rough patch is offset, to some extent, by their 2013 World Series title. A championship — even three in 10 years — can only suppress a fan base’s angst for so long, though, and Boston fans undoubtedly are tired of losing.

The Sox have finished in last place in three of the last four seasons. That includes the 2015 campaign, which Boston wrapped up Sunday with a 78-84 record. No longer are the Red Sox annual beasts of the American League East, like they were for much of last decade, though 2013 obviously was nice.

To be fair, the 2015 season wasn’t all negative. There were some positives, too, especially in the second half, when the club’s young nucleus thrived and gave Boston reason to believe 2016 will be better.

So, who was the Red Sox’s most valuable player this season? What was the best performance? The biggest surprise?

These questions and more are answered in NESN.com’s 2015 season review.
