Andrew Benintendi’s major league arrival could come earlier than originally expected.

Benintendi, who was drafted seventh overall by the Boston Red Sox in June, tore apart Single-A upon joining the professional ranks. The outfielder’s dominance wasn’t lost on Baseball America, which published a report card this week in which Benintendi drew serious praise.

Baseball America editor-in-chief John Manuel, managing editor J.J. Cooper and assistant editor Hudson Belinsky recently spoke with scouting directors and other scouting/player development personnel from all 30 Major League Baseball clubs to break down each team’s 2015 draft classes. Based on that research, Benintendi landed atop several categories that reflect the 21-year-old’s immense potential.

Benintendi was named the draft class’ “Best Pure Hitter,” edging Alex Bregman and Dansby Swanson, who were selected No. 2 and No. 3 overall, respectively. The Red Sox’s first-round draft pick was ranked No. 2 in the “Best Power Hitter” category and No. 4 in the “Best Athlete” category.

Benintendi also had the best professional debut of any college or junior college player selected in this year’s draft, according to Baseball America. He’s currently the closest to the majors of any college player picked in 2015, per the publication.

All of this obviously is good news for the Red Sox, who already had one of baseball’s best farm systems before selecting Benintendi. The pick represented somewhat of a gamble given that Benintendi didn’t have an extensive track record at the University of Arkansas, but it’s sure looking good right now.

Benintendi hit .313 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and a .972 OPS in 54 games split between Single-A Lowell (35 games) and Greenville (19 games).
