Report: Yoenis Cespedes Hurt Shoulder Doing Pushups, Should Be OK For World Series

The New York Mets got quite the scare Wednesday night.

The Mets ultimately partied like it was 2000 after winning the National League pennant and advancing to the World Series, but they did lose star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in the process. Cespedes was replaced early in the game with a shoulder injury.

ESPN’s Buster Olney later reported that Cespedes actually hurt his shoulder doing pushups. According to Olney, there isn’t much in the way of a visiting team weight room at Wrigley Field, so Cespedes got his work in the old-fashioned way. He apparently tweaked the shoulder and was pulled from the game, presumably as more of a precaution than anything else.

Cespedes also played golf Wednesday morning ahead of the game, which is something he told reporters he frequently does.

“On the contrary,” Cespedes said when asked if golf could have contributed to the injury, per the New York Post. “(Golf) is what really helps me with my swing in baseball.”

Cespedes certainly doesn’t sound concerned about the injury keeping him out of World Series games.
