Tom Brady Opens Up About Trainer: ‘I Wouldn’t Be Playing Today’ If Not For Him

There’s a lot we don’t fully know about Tom Brady, despite him beingĀ one of the biggest celebrities in the world.

The New England Patriots quarterback is celebrated for what he’s been able to do on the field for 15 years now, and he looks to be getting better with age. Fresh off another fine performance Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, Brady joined WEEI’s “The Dennis and Callahan Morning Show” on Monday, and revealed a little bit more about what makes him tick in his everyday life.

It’s clear that living a healthy life is among the most important things in Brady’s life. His borderline obsessive dedication to his beliefs has been documented before. However, some of that came indirectly under attack last week in a Boston Magazine profile of Alex Guerrero, Brady’s business partner and “guru,” for lack of a better term. Among the biggest takeaways from the story is that Guerrero faked being a doctor and claimed his products could cure cancer.

Brady was given a chance to defend Guerrero on Monday. Brady insisted he did not know the details of the story and allegations, but he swore by Guerrero.

“I think it speaks to him as a person, as a friend, there’s nobody better or a person that I enjoy as much as Alex,” Brady said on WEEI. “He’s been an incredible influence in my life. I think we’re doing something really special with our business.”

Despite the sidestep, Brady was further pressed on Guerrero’s actual credentials. Instead, Brady doubled down on his insistence that the work he’s done with Guerrero is responsible for much of his success.

“I don’t have the full details (on the allegations) … I didn’t read the whole story, I didn’t read the transcript,” Brady said. “I know what I’ve spoke with Alex over the years and I have tremendous belief in Alex and what he’s accomplished with me. In the 10 or 11 years we’ve been working together, he’s never been wrong. I had doctors with the highest and best education in our country tell us — tell me — that I’d never be able to play football again, that I would need multiple surgeries on my knee for my staph infection. That I’d need a new ACL, a new MCL, that I wouldn’t be able to play with my kids when I’m older. Of course, I go back next year and win comeback player of the year. I follow the next season and we win MVP of the year.”

In fact, Brady gave Guerrero much of the credit for the successes the four-time Super Bowl winner has enjoyed over the years.

“It’s a privilege to work with him, it really is,” Brady said during the WEEI interview. “I wouldn’t be playing today if it wasn’t for what he’s been able to accomplish with me and the process that I’ve gone through and learning how to take care of myself. Like I said, so much of it is about being proactive. It’s not waiting to get sick. It’s not waiting to get injured. Lifestyle choices are very important to your health and wellness.”
