Manchester United looks to avoid joining the ranks of slain giants when it faces Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup (or Football League Cup) on Wednesday.
The Red Devils host Middlesbrough in a Round of 16 meeting between high-flyers in the Premier League and Championship (English second division), respectively. The hosts occupy fourth place in the Premier League. The visitors sit in the same position in the division below.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal likely will field a number of squad players, but that strategy is fraught with risk, as the game is a single-elimination event in which the smallest incident can alter the outcome.
