You’ve probably heard that Tom Brady will be on the cover of GQ Magazine’s “Men of the Year” issue. You also probably read the story and, if you’re a defensive New England Patriots fan, might not have completely enjoyed it.

If that’s the case, brace yourselves, because you might not love what you’re about to hear.

Chuck Klosterman, a terrific and established author who penned the piece for GQ, hopped on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on Wednesday to break down his interview with the Patriots quarterback the day it was published. Klosterman ended up having to defend the piece on the podcast with Simmons, a friend of Klosterman’s but still a ravenous Pats fan himself.

The short version of the story, according to Klosterman: GQ was led to believe that “everything would be on the table” in terms of what Klosterman was allowed to ask, and that the piece would be “the ultimate explanation for this entire controversy.”

Brady’s camp then backed out of letting Klosterman interview Brady in person and also cut down the allotted time. As is noted in the piece, Brady refused to talk about Deflategate and claimed no one told him he would have to beforehand.

Klosterman and Simmons broke down the entire back story in much more detail in the podcast, which you can listen to in the player below.
