FOXBORO, Mass. — Jimmy Garoppolo must have done an impressive Eli Manning imitation last week.

The backup quarterback was one of six New England Patriots named practice players of the week for their work in preparation for the New York Giants. Wide receiver Chris Harper, linebacker Jerod Mayo, safety Tavon Wilson, cornerback Rashaan Melvin and linebacker Dane Fletcher, who’s still on the PUP list, also received the honor.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick praised Harper for his work in practice last week during his news conference Wednesday.

“Chris has worked hard. Yeah, he’s worked hard,” Belichick said. “A lot of times, like last week he was playing (Odell) Beckham in practice, so we’ve had a hard time with him in practice.”
