Patriots Fool Redskins With Surprising First-Quarter Onside Kick (Video)

The New England Patriots went right for the jugular Sunday against the Washington Redskins at Gillette Stadium.

New England scored a touchdown on its opening drive when Julian Edelman laid out and reached across the goal line. Clearly not satisfied with a one-score lead, the Patriots then attempted an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. The Redskins weren’t ready for such trickery.

The ‘Skins had an opportunity to recover Stephen Gostkowski’s onside kick, but they couldn’t secure the bacon and Jonathan Freeny pounced on it for the Patriots.

The Pats couldn’t take advantage of the recovery, as Edelman fumbled on the fifth play of New England’s ensuing drive. The aggressive call certainly set the tempo, though.
