The New England Patriots’ players were off Tuesday, but the team’s coaching staff and front office was busy working out four players, according to a source.

The Patriots tried out running back Daryl Richardson and offensive linemen Reid Fragel, Torrian Wilson and Keavon Milton. The Patriots signed Wilson and Milton to their practice squad.

Richardson was selected in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Abilene Christian by the St. Louis Rams. Richardson spent the 2014 season on the New York Jets’ practice squad and most recently was on the Houston Texans’ practice squad before being cut Nov. 3.

Richardson has 167 career carries for 690 yards and 38 career receptions for 284 yards. He played in 24 games for the Rams in 2012 and 2013.

Richardson ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash coming out of college and also had a 7.07-second three-cone, 4.36-second short shuttle, 40.5-inch vertical leap and 11-foot, 3-inch broad jump at 5-foot-10, 192 pounds.

The Patriots placed running back Dion Lewis on injured reserve Monday with a torn ACL, opening a spot on their 53-man roster.
