Report: Rams Won’t Be Penalized For Case Keenum Concussion Fiasco

The St. Louis Rams dropped the ball last Sunday with their handling of quarterback Case Keenum, who suffered a concussion late in their Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

But don’t expect any discipline.

It was obvious that Keenum, whose head slammed off the ground in the fourth quarter, was dazed, yet the Rams allowed him to remain in the game for two more plays after head athletic trainer Reggie Scott checked on the QB. Keenum never was removed for an official concussion evaluation.

The series of events triggered an NFL investigation. The team not only allowed the injury to fly under the radar the moment it occurred, a league spotter in the booth also failed to inform the on-field officials of the obvious severity of Keenum’s head injury.

But that investigation reportedly won’t lead to any discipline, which isn’t sitting well with some. A source with knowledge of the situation told ProFootballTalk that the NFL Players Association is “somewhat befuddled” by the league’s position that no further action will be taken.

The NFLPA, however, will continue its own investigation regardless of the NFL’s findings, Dr. Thomas Mayer, the union’s chief medical officer, told ESPN.

Quarterback Nick Foles started in place of Keenum this Sunday for the Rams’ Week 12 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
