FOXBORO, Mass. — Add Rob Gronkowski to the list of people who believe Tom Brady’s playing days are far from over.

Brady is 38 and in his 16th NFL season, but he’s still posting staggering numbers and is coming off winning Super Bowl MVP honors. So, Gronk asks, why can’t Brady play into his 40s?

“I don’t see any reason why not,” Gronkowski said during a conference call with Buffalo media Wednesday. “He’s on top of his body, stays up on top of what he needs to do to always be ready every week. So he’s a great guy to look up to physically, how he treats himself so he can always be ready for the following game.”

The chances of anyone playing football when they are 48 are slim to none, but Brady recently said he wants to try for 10 more years. After all, football has been a part of his life for decades now, and it won’t be easy to just give it up, especially while he is performing like he has.

Brady has completed 67.8 percent of his passes this season and has a passer rating of 111.1 through nine games. Both are above his career averages.

“I’m seeing the same guy I’ve seen since Day 1, and you see him having this type of success because since Day 1 I’ve ever seen him play, every time I practice with him, he’s been having the same routine,” Gronkowski said. “He comes in, works hard.

“He’s an offensive leader, goes out to practice with a purpose every single time — to get better, to have all the players around him get better, always studying film, in meetings and just the preparation and the way he goes about his job, he’s been doing it in and out ever since Day 1 I’ve ever seen him. So it’s unbelievable how he does it, and he’s definitely a true leader and a great leader to have.
