J.J. Watt Breaks Hand In Texans Practice, Expects To Play Vs. Patriots

It apparently will take a little more than a broken hand to slow down J.J. Watt.

The Houston Texans defensive end sat out practice Thursday with a cast on his left hand. Afterward, Watt revealed to reporters that he broke his hand during practice the previous day, but he fully intends to play Sunday night against the New England Patriots.

Watt downplayed how much the broken hand would affect him, telling reporters he’ll play through the pain.

Watt presumably will wear the cast Sunday night, meaning he’ll have to quickly adjust to playing without one of his hands, as Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel pointed out.

Watt, the reigning NFL defensive MVP, is having another brilliant season, leading the league in sacks with 13.5, despite being held without one last Sunday in Buffalo. Watt’s play is a big reason why Houston’s defense has come around, allowing just 13 points per game over the last five weeks.
