Justin Bieber was baptized in Tyson Chandler’s bathtub. That sentence is as weird as the story behind it.

The superstar singer apparently joined Hillsong, a megachurch that is frequented by celebrities, to help get his life back on track, according to a story in the upcoming issue of “GQ” magazine, via Complex.

Along the way, Bieber moved in with Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz and at one point began crying while praying with him, eventually asking to be baptized. The sacrament was going to be done in a Manhattan hotel pool that Hillsong rents for baptisms, but when Bieber and Lentz arrived, a swarming group of paparazzi was already there, preventing any privacy for the personal moment.

After another failed attempt at a friend’s pool, Lentz called current Phoenix Suns center Tyson Chandler, then playing for the New York Knicks, who offered up the pool in his apartment complex before finding out it was closed. So the group used the next-best thing: Chandler’s bathtub.

Bieber was then baptized in the 7-foot-1 center’s oversized tub in what is one of the weirdest stories we’ve heard in a while.
