Report: Leonard Hankerson To Be Waived By Patriots; Receiver Depth Takes Hit

The Leonard Hankerson experiment didn’t quite go as planned for the New England Patriots, who now might be scrambling for wide receiver help.

Hankerson will be waived by the Patriots on Saturday, a league source tells ProFootballTalk. Since Julian Edelman is doubtful to play on a foot injury, and Brandon LaFell (foot) and Danny Amendola (knee) are questionable to play, the Patriots likely will promote a wide receiver from their practice squad. Keshawn Martin is the lone fully healthy Patriots receiver on the active roster.

The Patriots have wide receivers DeAndre Carter and Chris Harper on their practice squad. Harper is the most likely candidate to be promoted, because he’s spent the entire year in the Patriots’ offense, bouncing between the practice squad and active roster.

Hankerson, who had previous stops with the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins, was claimed by the Patriots off waivers two weeks ago. He played one game and wasn’t targeted.
