Alabama onside kickNick Saban rolled the dice, and it paid off in the biggest way.

Saban and the University of Alabama won their fourth national championship since 2009 on Monday night, thanks in large part to one of the gutsiest football decisions we’ve seen in quite some time.

After tying the game 24-24 with a fourth quarter field goal, Saban and the Crimson Tide opted for a surprise onside kick. It worked to perfection, as Alabama took advantage of an unsuspecting Clemson front. ‘Bama recovered the kick and scored a touchdown not long after, and the swing in momentum set the tone for the rest of the game.

Not only did the play call give Alabama another title, it put Saban among some of the greatest risk-takers in football history.
