FOXBORO, Mass. — Surprise, surprise: Bill Belichick wasn’t interested in giving unnecessary injury updates about his New England Patriots.
A reporter attempted to ask Belichick three times about what it would mean to have wide receiver Julian Edelman (foot), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee) and offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer (ankle) back on the field and was stonewalled.
“We’ll see when we practice (Tuesday)Â and give our practice report (Wednesday),” Belichick said. “We’ll see what everyone can do.”
Clearly, having Edelman, Hightower and Vollmer would give the Patriots, who finished the season 2-4, a big boost in the playoffs.
“Look, we’d love to be at full strength, we’d love to have everyone back,” Belichick said. “We’ll see how they are. We haven’t really practiced in over a week, so we’ll see where everybody is (Tuesday) when we go out there for practice.”
Belichick, who wouldn’t even discuss his own recent injury, reiterated his statement when asked another followup.
“(We’d) love to have everybody back, love to be at full strength,” he said. “Always.”
The Patriots passing game, run defense and offensive line have struggled without Edelman, Hightower and Vollmer, respectively. All three practiced Monday for the Patriots.
