The only thing missing was the “Chariots of Fire” theme song.

There was something majestic about Tom Brady’s mad dash toward the end zone Saturday in the second quarter of the New England Patriots’ 27-20 AFC divisional-round playoff win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Just ask Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who had a front-row seat at Gillette Stadium for Brady’s scamper.

“He’s like a Clydesdale out there. A big old horse,” Edelman joked Monday on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni and Fauria,” reflecting on Brady’s 10-yard run, which set up a 1-yard touchdown plunge one play later. “Reminds me of the old Budweiser commercials. It was pretty cool.”

Patriots fan certainly would prefer to not see Brady taking any more big shots near the goal line. Although he’s in excellent shape, he’s also 38 years old, and New England can’t afford to lose the four-time Super Bowl champion in its quest for another championship.

But what an awkwardly beautiful sight it is seeing TB12 gallop toward pay dirt. Cherish the moments, for there will come a time when the Clydesdale no longer leaves the stable.
