The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks won the battle of the Big 12 Conference on Monday and stayed atop the mountaintop, handing conference rival No. 2 Oklahoma its first loss of the season in a thrilling 109-106 triple-overtime game.

Sooners senior guard Buddy Hield scored a game-high 46 points, tying the recordĀ for the most points by a visiting Kansas opponent ever. Teammate Jordan Woodward also was a menace, racking up 27 points before fouling out of the game in the third overtime.

Kansas senior forward Perry Ellis was masterful for the Jayhawks, dropping 27 points and pulling in 13 rebounds, while guard Wayne Selden Jr. added 21 points.

Kansas and Oklahoma rose to Nos. 1 and 2 in the AP rankings, respectively, on Monday — though Oklahoma earned the No. 1 spot in the coaches’ poll, giving the game rarefied status as one featuring two No. 1 teams.
