Liverpool and Manchester United don’t currently occupy their historic heights, but meetings between these teams remain the biggest in English soccer.
Liverpool hosts Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday at Anfield. This latest contest between the Reds and the Red Devils pits the ninth- and sixth-placed teams, respectively, in the standings against each other. Both have ambitions of finishing in the top four places and need a win to strengthen their pursuit of success.
Manchester Untied will be without midfielder Michael Carrick. Morgan Schneiderlin will look to play a controlling role in the Red Devils’ midfield in Carrick’s absence.
Liverpool likely will continue to rely on Roberto Firmino to spearhead the attack. Firmino scored two fine goals Wednesday in Liverpool’s draw against Arsenal. The Brazilian is developing a knack for scoring in big games.
