Soccer fans around the world have spoken, and Wendell Lira scored best.
Lira on Monday won the 2015 FIFA Puskas Award for best goal of the year. Lira claimed the award at FIFA’s 2015 Ballon d’Or gala in Zurich.
Voters from around the world picked the bicycle kick Lira scored on March 11 for Goianesia as the best of the bunch.
Lira’s strike bested Lionel Messi’s goal for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao and Alessandro Florenzi’s long-range effort for AS Roma against Barcelona.
Goals scored between Sept. 27, 2014, and Sept. 23, 2015, were eligible for the 2015 honor.
