The New England Patriots dodged a bullet when they didn’t offer running back Montee Ball a future/reserve contract after the 2015 season.

Ball was arrested Friday on tentative substantial battery charges, the Madison (Wisc.) Police Department told NBC15.com.

“The woman told police she had a dispute with her boyfriend,” a police source told Madison.com. “She said he put his hands on her, picked her up and threw her.”

Ball told police she was pushed, according to NBC15.com.

The woman suffered a cut on her leg and required stitches. Ball was taken to Dane County Jail.

Ball signed with the Patriots practice squad in December. His contract expired Feb. 1.

J.J. Worton, another former Patriots practice squader, was arrested last month.
