Michael Oher demonstrated exactly why Super Bowl 50 should have been played somewhere other than Levi’s Stadium.
There were concerns about the playing surface at the newly built Santa Clara, California, stadium, as the San Francisco 49ers had problems with it collapsing and being slippery all season. The NFL resodded the field before the big game, but that didn’t stop players from wiping out, even in practice.
But this Vine of the Carolina Panthers offensive tackle finding absolutely no footing while trying to block Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware shows just how bad it was.
Of course, Ware is a great linebacker, but natural grass still shouldn’t act like ice when players move on it. Not to mention, the Super Bowl champion Broncos did just as much complaining about the turf after the game.
“The footing on the field was terrible,” Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib said, per ESPN.com. “San Fran has to play eight games on that field, so they better do something to get it fixed. It was terrible.”
Talib is right, too. If the field wasn’t suitable for the biggest NFL game of the year, then there’s no reason a team should be playing on it all the time.
