Reports: Daniel Sturridge Wants Liverpool Exit In Summer 2016 Amid Fitness Worries

Daniel Sturridge days at Liverpool may be numbered.

Sturridge will seek to leave Liverpool this summer, The Mail’s Sami Mokbel and Neil Ashton and The Mirror’s John Cross reported Thursday. Sturridge’s reported desire could prompt the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United to include him on their summer shopping lists, according to Mokbel and Ashton.

Sturridge has played just 25 games since the start of 2014-15 due to a litany of injuries, which have stalled his once-promising Anfield career. Many questioned his pain threshold and desire to play for Liverpool, and the 26-year-old reportedly is fed up with the public comments and criticism about his injury record.

Two-and-a-half years remain on Sturridge’s contract. Liverpool would have no need to sell him at a discount this summer if it decided to do so.

Sturridge returned to full practice this week, as he seeks to overcome his latest setback. He reportedly is targeting a place in England’s Euro 2016 squad, but he must play well for Liverpool over the next three-plus months in order to have a chance at doing so.

What happens after that is anyone’s guess, but rumors attempt to make it clear where Sturridge stands.
