Did John Elway Call Out Brock Osweiler For Wanting To Leave Broncos?

Brock Osweiler could have re-signed with reigning Super Bowl champs, but it appears he’s headed for literal greener pastures.

The former Denver Broncos quarterback and free agent reportedly agreed to terms Wednesday with the Houston Texans on a four-year, $72 million contract.

That leaves the Broncos virtually without a QB after Peyton Manning retired earlier this week. Denver reportedly made a strong push to re-sign Osweiler, but according Mike Klis of Denver’s 9News, the team bowed out after getting not-so-great signals from the 25-year-old quarterback.

Of course, Osweiler didn’t make any public comments about not wanting to play in Denver, but team executive vice president/general manager John Elway certainly indicated that was the case in his comments Wednesday.

“We’ve stayed true to our philosophy of building a team with players who want to be Denver Broncos and want to be here,” Elway said, via the team’s official website.

“That’s been a successful approach for us,” he added. “While we did offer a very competitive and fair long-term contract to Brock, we ultimately had to remain disciplined while continuing to assemble a roster that can compete for championships.”

It doesn’t take too much reading between the lines to determine that Elway and the Broncos weren’t thrilled with Osweiler’s attitude. Apparently a few of his former teammates felt the same way, as well:

Osweiler started seven games for the Broncos last season but was benched in favor of Manning for the playoffs. Trevor Siemian, the 250th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is Denver’s current starting QB with both Osweiler and Manning gone, but the team reportedly is interested in free agents Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III.
