Floyd Mayweather Jr. Rips Apart ‘Snake’ Adrien Broner In Epic Takedown

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s retired, but he hasn’t stopped throwing verbal punches.

Mayweather absolutely unloaded on Adrien Broner this week in a scathing interview with FightHype.com. The undefeated boxer even made up a new nickname for Broner, a former friend who has been critical of Mayweather in recent weeks leading up to his own April 1 fight against Ashley Theophane (promoted by Mayweather Promotions).

“I think the best name for him is not ‘The Problem.’ It’s ‘Snake,’ ” Mayweather said. “The reason why is because of this: Say a snake is hurt and sick. You nurture that snake, you help that snake, you give that snake medicine, and you get that snake back to 100 percent. As soon as you turn your back, a snake will bite you.

“Basically, when everyone always went out there and said negative things about Adrien Broner, I still had his back. Always. He called me the other day and I tried to give him some positive advice, and then as soon as I’m not looking or I don’t know what’s going on, what’d he do? He’s going to bite me in the back.”

Mayweather took some other vicious shots at Broner, who recently posted a nearly five-minute video ripping his old pal. He said Broner was an alcoholic just six months ago and alluded to the Cincinnati native’s ongoing legal issues amid his epic rant.

“He said ‘Hateweather Promotions.’ I’m still trying to find out what ‘AB’ stands for. ‘Always broke?’ ” Mayweather said. “I mean, that’s what I thought ‘AB’ stands for.

” … He gave himself a 10-figure name: ‘About Billions.’ We know he ain’t never seen eight figures or nine figures. He’s barely seen seven figures. It could be safe to say that just one of my cars costs more than he made in his whole career.”

Maybe Mayweather and Broner really hate each other. Or maybe they’re each intentionally crossing the line to drum up interest for Friday night’s fight between Broner and Theophane. Either way, Mayweather continues to find himself in the news even in retirement.

That’s just how “Money” rolls, for better or worse.
