Insane Iowa State Cover Vs. Oklahoma Is All-Time Gambling Moment (Video)

Today, in reasons why you never should bet on sports, we present to you the Oklahoma-Iowa State basketball game.

One of the worst beats (or best wins, depending on where you fall) in sports gambling history took place late Thursday night at the Big 12 men’s tournament in Kansas City.

Most sportsbooks had Oklahoma as 4- or 4.5-point favorites over ISU. The Sooners had that cover all but locked up, leading by six points with 8.1 seconds left and a chance to push it to seven with a free throw. OU missed the free throw but was able to corral the rebound, which is when things got especially dicey.

Oklahoma star Buddy Hield snagged the board and certainly might have been fouled after getting the ball, but the referees swallowed their whistles — for a second or two. When Hield stumbled and took two steps, the referees quickly called the travel.

That set the stage for the most meaningless yet meaningful buzzer-beater we’ve seen in a very, very long time.
