Jay Glazer Recalls Time He Almost Fought Peyton Manning At 2007 Pro Bowl

Jay Glazer will have quite the story for his grandchildren.

Glazer revealed in a 2014 GQ article that he almost fought Peyton Manning at the 2007 Pro Bowl after the quarterback cracked a joke about his good friend/former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan. The FOX Sports NFL insider since has elaborated on the crazy story, which became a topic of conversation during Glazer’s recent appearance on Bill Simmons’ podcast.

According to Glazer, the interesting exchange with Manning occurred as him and some NFL players were throwing back Mai Tais in an attempt to break former NFL safety John Lynch’s record of 34 drinks. Manning apparently showed up and started throwing verbal jabs at Glazer, which caused Glazer to mess with Manning’s drink order.

That move didn’t sit well with Manning, who, according to Glazer, then asked whether Strahan called him every day to write a story. Glazer took the comment as a joke about Strahan’s divorce and fired back, leading to a heated argument that nearly resulted in the two trading blows.

If that’s not enough, consider this: Glazer was with a friend who intervened amid the chaos. And that friend was none other than former UFC champion Chuck Liddell. (Glazer also does MMA.)

Cooler heads ultimately prevailed, for better or worse. Glazer and Manning smoothed things over later that evening and, according to Glazer, they’ve been on good terms ever since.

The incident sure makes for a wild story, though. And yes, Lynch’s Mai Tai record still stands.
