For most of Saturday’s Northeast Regional final, the Boston College Eagles were soaring. A fierce comeback from Minnesota-Duluth, however, made things very interesting in the final minutes.

Actually, interesting is probably an understatement. The Eagles were this close to blowing their lead in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

It’s probably safe to say BC goalie Thatcher Demko will be buying forward Austin Cangelosi’s Chipotle burritos for the rest of the season, as that magnificent stick save was the difference in BC’s 3-2 win in Worcester, Mass.

The win secured the Eagles a spot in the Frozen Four, which will begin April 7 in Tampa, Fla. It’s the 25th appearance in the national semifinals for the boys from Chestnut Hill, surpassing Michigan for the most by any school.

In other action, UMass Lowell’s Joe Gambardella scored the game-tying goal in the third period to send the River Hawks and Yale Bulldogs into overtime in the semifinals of the East Regional. He followed up those heroics by potting the OT game-winner to clinch a 3-2 victory.

Lowell will take on Quinnipiac University on Sunday, with the winner advancing to play BC in the national semis.

Boston University was the only Hockey East school not to get a win Saturday, as the Terriers fell to Denver 7-2 in the West Regional semifinals.
