The Boston Red Sox just employed another member of their 2004 World Series-winning squad.

The team announced Thursday that former closer Keith Foulke will return to the Red Sox as a player development consultant. According to Foulke, his new role includes working with relief pitchers in Boston’s farm system.

Foulke, of course, is most famous for flipping the final out of the Red Sox’s 2004 World Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. That season Foulke posted a 2.17 ERA with 32 saves. He was especially good in the playoffs, allowing just one run in 14 innings pitched. Foulke finished his 11-year career with a 3.33 ERA and 191 saves between the Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics.

Foulke joins the likes of ex-teammates Pedro Martinez, Jason Vatritek and Tim Wakefield, who all work with the Red Sox in some capacity.
