Report: Johnny Manziel ‘Untouchable’ To NFL Teams If He Doesn’t Seek Help

It might be a while before we see Johnny Manziel in the NFL again.

Manziel is a free agent after the Cleveland Browns released the quarterback last week and he ultimately cleared waivers. However, Manziel’s off-the-field issues likely will have teams thinking long and hard before taking a chance on the former first-round draft pick.

In fact, Manziel might not even get another shot in the NFL — at least not before he receives help.

The MMQB’s Emily Kaplan dived deep into Manziel’s plight for an eye-opening profile on the QB’s issues away from the gridiron, as Manziel has been spotted partying from coast to coast in the last year or so. Even Manziel’s father is worried about his son, publicly admitting he hopes Johnny gets the help he needs. According to Kaplan’s piece, Manziel’s NFL return is unlikely without him seeking and receiving that proper help.

“As recently as early January, league sources say at least two teams — one being the Cowboys — had legitimate interest in Manziel,” Kaplan wrote on The MMQB. “That was before the alleged assault on (ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley). Now, those same sources say that unless Manziel seeks treatment, he’s ‘untouchable.’ His actions since Crowley’s accusations surfaced — chugging bottles at nightclubs from Miami to West Hollywood, dancing at a strip club — demonstrate such apparent disregard, it raises the question: If he never plays football again, does he even care?”

Whether Manziel actually seeks that help is very much unknown. Kaplan’s piece doesn’t show much confidence from the QB’s inner circle. According to the story, “each person” interviewed for the story “expressed frustration with Manziel, sharing stories that depicted a lack of commitment and a culture of enablement.”

Not even LeBron James could get through to Manziel.

“When he had LeBron James as a mentor, texting him all the time, hanging out at his house watching football, and Johnny didn’t listen to his advice? That’s when I knew we had a problem,” one of Manziel’s coaches told Kaplan.
