Roy Jones Jr. once was the best pound-for-pound boxer in the universe. Now, he’s throwing hands with random dudes off the street.

Jones participated in one of the most bizarre pay-per-view events you’ll ever hear about Sunday. He knocked out a “fan” who was given the opportunity to fight Jones in pursuit of a huge payday.

The event’s promotion claimed that Jones would fight a fan, who then would be awarded $100,000 if he was able to defeat the former boxing champion. The Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission stepped in and made sure Jones’ opponent at least had some combat sports experience, according to ESPN.com, but the bout still was nothing more than a novelty.

Vyron Phillips, a fighter with limited boxing and mixed martial arts experience, reportedly was selected from more than 1,500 entries received. He lasted until the second round, at which point Jones floored the average Joe with a right hook to the chops.

Jones’ knockout capped a strange event that also featured an MMA fight in which one fighter received a wedgie, a grappling match, a wrestling match between Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio Jr., and a performance by Riff Raff. Oh yeah, and Jim Ross did commentary alongside Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

The whole night was a slobberknocker.
