Hawks Proudly Show Off Justin Bieber Jersey; Could ‘Bieber Curse’ Be Next?

The Boston Celtics have no shortage injury concerns in their first-round series with the Atlanta Hawks, so they’ll likely take any good karma they can get.

Luckily for the C’s, the Hawks might be helping out by aligning themselves with none other than Justin Bieber.

The Hawks on Monday night tweeted this photo of a personalized Hawks jersey (which are still ugly, by the way) with the name “Bieber” on the back.

As far as we can tell, there’s not a lot to this. It sure looks like it’s just an attempt by the Hawks’ social media folks to drum up some conversation and to get their brand out there a little more. If that was the goal, then mission accomplished.

It’s not the first time the Hawks have tried to trumpet Bieber as a Hawks fan, either.

But this could still backfire on Atlanta. In addition to being judged hard by just about every non-“Belieber” out there, the Hawks have opened themselves up to the latest victims of the Curse of Bieber.

Bieber has no shortage of sports connections, and there’s this theory out there that associating your franchise with the pop star usually ends in peril on the court, field or ice. Whether that happens for the Hawks remains to be seen.

We’ll get our first idea of that Tuesday night when the Hawks host the Celtics in Game 2 of their opening-round playoff series.
