Michael Strahan is changing television shows.

ABC News president James Goldston revealed Tuesday that Strahan is leaving his co-hosting role on “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” where he starred alongside Kelly Ripa, to join the cast of “Good Morning America.” The shift will happen in September.

Strahan has made appearances on “Good Morning America” in the past, but he’ll soon join the popular ABC TV show on a permanent basis. The Pro Football Hall of Famer joined Ripa on “Live!” in 2012 and immediately became a fan favorite, ultimately leading to his new position.

“Over the past two years on GMA, Michael’s proven to be a tireless and versatile broadcaster with an incredible ability to connect with people, from veterans and all kinds of newsmakers to a host of modern American cultural icons,” Goldston said in a statement Tuesday.

Strahan, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection who spent his entire 15-year NFL career with the New York Giants, will continue to serve as a co-host on FOX’s Sunday NFL coverage.

According to Goldston, the search for a new “Live!” co-host will begin when the new season kicks off in the fall.
