Pedro Martinez Relieves Stephen Colbert To Deliver Yankees, A-Rod Joke

If Pedro Martinez’s dominant performance in Game 5 of the 1999 American League Division Series is his greatest relief performance of all time, then this might be his second-best.

The Boston Red Sox legend and recently-enshrined Baseball Hall of Famer helped Stephen Colbert celebrate Major League Baseball’s opening day(s) on Monday night by making an appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

Martinez appeared at the end of Colbert’s baseball segment — in relief, if you will — and delivered a joke about a team and city he knows plenty about — the New York Yankees.

Martinez’s showing begs the question: Why doesn’t Pedro have his own late-night talk show?
