There have been 50 Super Bowls and a bunch of star-studded halftime shows, yet you could make the case that no one ever has done it better than Prince.

Prince, who was found dead at his Minnesota compound early Thursday morning, wowed the Miami crowd with his halftime performance at Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4, 2007. It’s widely considered one of the best — if not the best — Super Bowl halftime shows of all time.

The game was a stinker, as Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts defeated Rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears 29-17. But who could forget Prince singing “Purple Rain” as literal rain fell from the Florida sky above Dolphin Stadium?

So, as the world mourns the death of Prince, let’s relive and cherish the pop icon’s legendary performance on sports’ biggest stage.
