Blake Swihart’s journey in the outfield is taking its first step through the majors Friday night.
The Boston Red Sox’s young catching prospect has spent the better part of this season in Triple-A to learn to play the outfield in the pros. With Brock Holt headed to the disabled list, Boston decided to give its gifted young switch hitter a chance to contribute at Fenway Park.
He spoke in the clubhouse before the start, as seen on NESN’s “Red Sox Gameday Live,” and said he’s played the outfield previously throughout his career which contributes to his comfort in jumping into the fray.
