The Calder Trophy finalists for the 2015-16 NHL season were announced Monday night, and they are Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid, Chicago Blackhawks winger Artemi Panarin and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.
Of all the award races this season, this one should be the most intensely debated.
A lot of people believe McDavid was the most impressive rookie. He was the only first-year player above a point per game and finished with 16 goals and 32 assists in just 48 games. But did he play enough games to beat out Panarin?
The Chicago rookie was pretty consistent all season and tallied 30 goals and 47 assists for 77 points — all three led first-year players. Panarin played in 80 games.
Gostisbehere had 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists) in 64 games.
The Calder winner will be announced June 22 at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.
